In 1986, José Maria da Fonseca fulfilled a dream by acquiring Casa Agrícola José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes, located at Herdade do Monte da Ribeira. This historic estate, producing wine since at least 1878, is the heart of José de Sousa, José de Sousa Mayor, J, and Puro Talha wines, as well as Ripanço, D. Julieta, and Montado wines in Reguengos de Monsaraz. The winery, rooted in a tradition dating back to the Romans, features 114 clay amphorae for fermentation, alongside modern stainless steel vats in a new winery.
