In the mid-1940s, Américo de Sousa Lopes (Tomé) founded ASL Tomé, a winery now managed by the fourth generation of the family. In 1992, Carlos and Nuno Branco established the Alto da Cascalheira table wine brand, expanding in 2002 to create the Cascalheira – Terras do Sado Regional Wine range. The winery joined the Setúbal Peninsula Wine Route in 2011, and Cascalheira wines have earned gold and silver medals, notably in national contests. The winery offers wine tourism with the WineBar Adega Velha and an Art Gallery, featuring experiences like vineyard picnics. Regular events at Quinta da Cascalheira include wine tasting, exhibitions, theater, parties, and live music. The focus remains on crafting honest wines with personality, showcasing the vineyards’ diverse varieties. The regional wine range reflects a blend of traditional and modern production methods developed over more than 100 years at ASL Tomé.
