Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima extends along the south bank of the Tagus, about 2 km from the village of Alpiarça and 11 km from Santarém. In 1834, Quinta da Lagoalva is purchased by Henrique Teixeira de Sampayo, 1st Count of Póvoa. In 1841-42, all assets passed to D. Maria Luisa Noronha de Sampaio, who married D. Domingos António Maria Pedro de Souza e Holstein, 2nd Duke of Palmela, in 1846, with the assets reverting to Casa Palmela from that time onwards.
Successively always held by her descendants, the land is now owned by the Agricultural Society Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima SA.
