About

Quinta da Atela in Alpiarça dates back to 1346, originally named Quinta da Goucha e Atela and owned by Afonso Telo de Menezes. It was later donated to the Convent of Graça in Santarém. In the late 20th century, Isidoro Maria de Oliveira bought the estate, but it was occupied for a decade after the 1974 revolution before being returned to its owners.

In 2017, entrepreneurs Anabela Tereso and Fernando Vicente of Valgrupo acquired it. Under Anabela’s leadership, the estate and vineyards were revitalized.

Situated on the south bank of the Tejo River, the 600-hectare estate has 150 hectares of vineyards with various grape varieties, including whites like Fernão Pires and Chardonnay, and reds like Castelão and Pinot Noir. It also features a notable 75-year-old Castelão vineyard called Carvalhita.

Quinta da Atela boasts exceptional wine tourism facilities, offering wine tastings, lodging, and events. In 2022, it won the “Best Wine Tourism” award in the Tejo region.
