Monte da Carochinha is a vineyard located on the coastal slope of Serra do Cercal, overlooking the Southwest Alentejo Natural Park and Costa Vicentina. The vineyard enjoys a high view over the beautiful sea of Porto Covo. The poor shale soils on steep slopes are surrounded by cork oak forest, pine, and rockrose, with the Atlantic Ocean in the background. This unique Mediterranean setting, protected by the microclimate of the mountain, contributes to the special character of the wines produced here.
Wines made exclusively from Arinto, Encruzado, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, and Merlot grapes are born here. Notably, the producers conducted an experiment by submerging 101 bottles in the Atlantic for seven months at a depth of about 16 meters, resulting in the creation of Vinho do Mar, the original top-of-the-range wine from this new producer.
